What’s in My Mom Bag: Chaos Edition

Because organization is a myth and this season is wild.

I used to have a clean purse. I really did. A cute one, too. Now? My bag is a catch all survival kit that somehow manages to hold the essentials, the random, and the “why is this in here?” all at once.

I don’t even carry a full diaper bag anymore, just a slightly more grown-up (but still chaotic) version. And while I’m grateful I’m not lugging a massive tote anymore, I do miss the days when I had a pocket for everything and everything in its pocket.

Here’s a peek into my current bag of mayhem, minus the random crumbs:

1. Headphones Because Sometimes I Need a Song to Process Life

When I need a moment to myself, music helps me breathe, reset, and sometimes cry in the car while no one’s watching. You get it.

2. Snacks for Two (Or Maybe Just Me)

Snacks for Lullah, snacks for me. Hers range from applesauce to gummy chaos. Mine exist solely because I have terribly low iron and low blood sugar waits for no one. I call them “survival bites.”

3. A Phone That’s Basically Just a Camera Now

It’s dead half the time, or hanging on at 4%. But its ready to take blurry pictures of the cutest toddler you’ve ever seen at any moment.

4. Diapers, Wipes, and Extra Clothes

It’s the basics now. no more giant bag filled with a nursery’s worth of gear. Just the essentials, and even those feel like a lot some days.

 5. Makeup for Touch-Ups (a.k.a. Sweat Repair)

Running after a toddler is basically a cardio class. I’ve stopped pretending I won’t sweat through my mascara. A quick dab here and there is my reset button.

6. Random Toy of the Day

One day it’s a rubber duck. The next, a squishy unicorn or a pretend tea pot that makes alarming noises at inopportune moments. It’s always a surprise.

7. A Book I’ll Never Finish

Every now and then, I toss a book in like I’m going to have a quiet reading moment. It’s sweet how optimistic I am.

8. My Wallet… or What’s Left of It

It’s in pieces. Cards are everywhere, receipts are crumpled, and I regularly find my license in the snack pocket because my toddler loves to rearrange my financial life.

So no, it’s not neat. It’s not curated. It’s not even all zipped.

But it’s mine. It holds the little moments, the what-ifs, and the just-in-cases that come with being a mom on the go. It may be chaos, but it’s sacred chaos.

And honestly? I wouldn’t trade it for anything. (Okay, maybe for a nap and a cold Red Bull… but

then I’d want it right back.)
